Copy. 19 Head of Division IV Prague, 30 March 1942. Wo/Kr I. Note. Subject: Czech Historical Institute in Rome. At my presentation on 14 March, the Secretary of State agreed that I would occasionally take up the matter of the Czech Historical Institute and, if necessary, have it checked on the spot with the help of Minister Moravec's secretary, who is also in Italy. The Deputy Reichsprotektor also agreed to the written presentation of a corresponding mission plan. The documents of Group I/10 and the Secretary of State show the following state of affairs: 1.) Under 27.3.41 (Kult.W 3276), the Federal Foreign Office sent two relevant reports to its representative at the Reichsprotektor from the German Embassy in Rome, which show that, even in view of any Italian interest, there is no longer any concern about the closure of the Czech Historical Institute in Rome. Due to the exploitation of the institute's property (library of 6473 volumes), the Federal Foreign Office joins the proposal of the Embassy in Rome subject to the opinion of the Reich Education Minister and the Reich Protector. The Embassy had proposed that the Institute be attached to the German Historical Institute in Rome in any way and that the Slovak works of the Library be made available to the Slovak State. 2.) For this purpose, under the 16.10.41 (W N 592/41 II Z III) the Minister of Education informed the Protector of the Reich that he requested that the Czecho-Slovak Institute in Rome be closed.
