17a 2 3.) On 31 July 1941, Group I/10 submitted to the Secretary of State an order to the Prime Minister in Prague asking him to close the Institute with immediate effect and to have the library, with the exception of Slovak works, returned to Prague. The letter was not accepted as it was notified by Dr. v. Both on 1 August that the Institute in Rome was already being monitored by German security bodies. The questioning of the SD section of the head office in Prague at the Reichsssicherheitshauptamt in Berlin caused the matter to be delayed and not brought to an end. 4.) It now appears necessary to give immediately the following order to the Minister of Education and the Representative of the Foreign Office, which shall serve as the legal basis for the consideration of the matter by Head of Division IV and the High Commissioner Stuchlik in Rome. The SD section of Prague receives a copy of the above note with the request for independent information of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt and of the police attaché at the German Embassy in Rome: Wolf II. Letter: 1.) To the Minister of Education and People's Culture, Colonel Emanuel Moravec, Prague III, Carmelitergasse. Subject: The Czech Historical Institute in Rome. I would ask that the Czech Historical Institute close in Rome with immediate effect, and that the order for closure should be sent personally to Rome by the High Commissioner at the Ministry of Education, Mr Franz Stuchlik. Stuchlik would have to be authorised to take all necessary measures to secure the property of the Institute in Rome and, moreover, to instruct him to contact the German Embassy in Rome before taking any measures.
