Sicherheitsdienst des Reichsführers-SS SD-Leitsabteilung Prag III C 4 - VA 1543 Prag-Bubentsch, den 20.9.1943. Telex 774-44 To the personal speakers of the SS-Obergruppenführer Minister of State K.H.Frank, SS-Upper-Sturmbannfänger Dr. G i e s, Prag IV Czernin-Palais Betr.: Czech Historical Institute in Rome. Introduction: Last there St.M. V E - 66 j/41 of 31.8.43. As far as the Czech Historical Institute in Rome was concerned, the following was known: The entire holdings of this institute (including the files and the 75 boxes of books from the property of the former Czechoslovak delegation in Rome) were sent to the Foreign Office in Berlin long ago. From there it should be transferred to Prague by agreement, after the removal of the books intended for Slovakia. In the meantime, however, Director Jürgens of the Reich Exchange Centre has, on the basis of the decree issued by the Führer, to supplement the holdings of scientific libraries damaged by bomb attacks from confiscated and other existing holdings, which claim books and files of the Czech Historical Institute in Rome for this purpose. Since the newspapers, according to director Jürgens, are almost without exception not complete vintages and the books are only those which are likely to be present in Prague itself, the Ministry of Education in Prague did not object to the fact that the holdings of the Czech Historical Institute and the former Czech-Slovak embassy in Rome were not transferred to Prague.
