As unheard of and as surprising as Heydrich's election came for most people, it seemed clear at first glance that the purpose and task of this appointment was clear, since Heydric was the head of the security police and the SD, it was believed that he could draw all the conclusions regarding his future leadership. The immediate task, which Heydrich saw himself facing after his arrival, was also at first purely police nature. At that time he took it into account in the grinning words: "I have to teach the Czech people the realization that they cannot pass by the realities of their affiliation and their obedience to the Reich. "We remember that at the end of the summer of 1941 the anti-German wave, which had been blown up by the outbreak of hostilities with Yugoslavia to panslavist-Bolshevist rallies, was again considerable. An illegal military and political organization, equipped with the modern means of fighting terror and sabotage, was prepared to gain leadershipal and propagandistic influence on the masses. This resistance movement not only had the closest contact with the London émigré government made by shortwave transmitters; rather, it had in the prime minister of the autonomous government a secret co-wisher and promoter, who had not hesitated to pretend devotion and loyalty to the Reich Protector by pledged his officer's word, while he was in league with the attack against the Reich. The front of active resistance and passive resistance moved from the highest point of the autonomous government to the ministers down to the smugglers, sliders, saboteurs and Jews.
