On March 8th at 1 p.m. the Germans took an attack with 90 tanks in company strength on the positions of a company of our units. All attacking companies belonged to the 4th. The battle lasted one day and one night, and as Moscow reported, 19 German tanks were destroyed, and 400 Germans fell in battle. Despite superior German tank forces, she defended the section assigned to her without her own tank support and added heavy losses to the enemy's human and material resources. General Golikow congratulated her on the successful execution of her tasks. The commander-in-chief of the Czechoslovakian army, President Dr. E.Benes, sent the following telegram to the commander of the Czech unit in the USSR, Colonel Swoboda: With sincere joy I read the news that our unit under your leadership was deployed in the struggles on the eastern front against the German fascist hordes and thus participated in the magnificent Soviet winter offensive. She kept herself excellent and fulfilled the assignment assigned to her in an exemplary way. I thank you, as well as all officers and crews for the conscientious fulfilment of her patriotic duties. With regard to the liberation of our homeland, it is almost symbolic for us to be able to fight for them on all fronts, and especially on the eastern front, together with the victorious army of our Soviet ally. We stand out with our ally and will win with them. Greetings to you and all the soldiers in the Soviet Union.
