oh Strict_confidential_! Management report of the Department of Food and Agriculture for the 2nd quarter of the calendar year 1944. 1.) General production. The iron allocation was reduced again. Nevertheless, the tractor production could be maintained to the present extent. The development in the fuel supply required further saving measures. In order to compensate for this, an attempt was made to speed up the conversion of agricultural tractors, but without success because of the considerable withdrawal of skilled workers from the conversion workshops. Ostracler programme tugs and agricultural machinery are made available in limited quantities without any allocation of material quotas for the farming sector of the Protectorate. The Germantumsaktion 1943/44 has been completed; about 70 small farms were used to support 200,000 RM. 2.) Livestock breeding. The stallions, which were returned to the country bag in other years on 1 July, are for the most part accommodated by farmers for reasons of air protection. This measure also has a positive effect on the fact that, in particular, large-scale farms can now provide good horse material with human aid. They bring a great deal of work to be done and enable the responsible German men to speak to a large number of Czech farmers and to draw their attention to the demands made by the war-food industry. 3.) Farming and planting. Winter cereals wintering was very low. This is without doubt due to the fact that a) potash fertilisation has been substantially increased, compulsory pickling has been prescribed and generally carried out, and winter rape cultivation is gaining ground in the Protectorate. Due to the compulsory change of plantations in potatoes, the health of potato crops has improved considerably. An increase in potato yields is to be expected. The removal of various fruits from compulsory cultivation and the transfer into contract cultivation has proved to be fully effective. 4.)
