English Translation
No.171Steck 24x Abbot L Dt.10.14 Process: Reports & pol.waga Order to No. 1637/40 Secret report on the general political situation in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia for the period 10.8. to 30.9.1940. I. Particularly significant events are not recorded in this period. The mood of the Czech population is still waiting and has increased rather than improved despite various attempts by leading Czech authorities. It is to be noted that all important political events such as: the Vienna Arbitration Award, the Three Powers Pact, etc. are not capable of significantly affecting the attitude of the Czech people for more than 24 hours. The still well-functioning whisper propaganda, which is largely controlled by the foreign radio, gives every political incident an immediately anti-German interpretation. The landing in England, which has not yet been completed, and the further bombing of German cities, have a significant impact on the Czechs. They hope that the United States and the Soviet Union will soon enter the war. The latter slogan will be substantially promoted by an increased propaganda by the communists, which is banished by Panslavism.
