Translation. TELEPHONE PARK 2347. LANSDOWNE HOUSE 7, HOLLAND PARK W. London. 27. Mars 1924 Dear Mr. Hájek! A group relapse prevented me from confirming receipt of the cheque for 5000 pounds as soon as His Excellency Dr. Masný had handed it to me. I apologize for this involuntary delay. You have thus paid the rest on the 10,000 pounds for the advertisement contract, that is 2000 pounds; and 3000 pounds for my information services. By thanking you on behalf of the Review of Reviews, as well as on your own behalf for your great kindness, I ask you to believe that we will not fail to increase the importance of advertisements in the Review and to give our intelligence service the greatest possible value. Now that the hard work that brought my book to an end is almost over and the preparation of the special supplement on Central Europe is about to be completed, I will find more time to write regularly for the Prague press and the other Czechoslovak newspapers. I hope to be able to convey the first 17 chapters of my book to His Excellency in a few days' time to the President of the Republic. Until he has read, you will then have the same for translation into the Czech language. However, it is necessary that this translation does not appear before the autumn and then exactly 15 days after the publication of the English edition. I cannot allow the translation into the German language, because the rights of any other translation other than that in the Czech language belong to my publishers. At the same time as thanking me, Mr Hájek, you want to take on the assurance of my warm and grateful feelings. WICKHAM STEED Mr Jan HÁJEK Ministry of Foreign Affairs PRAG
