Ministerial Councillor Dr. Heckel Prague, 17 July 1942 To the head of the Zentrel administration of the department head I in the house In my inquiries into the personal relations of the officials and employees of the Group I lo, the Ministry of Education and the German State School Council in Prague, I have been repeatedly referred to the complaint that the amount of the employment allowance is not sufficient to cover the additional costs incurred by the members of the company by their stay in the Protectorate. I have provided my officials with calculations of their Jing fin da a a p e dn officials of different grades (A 4 b - A 2 b). In the case of min bait some compilations have to be set aside without further minor items for expenses which the officials would have incurred at home. Furthermore, a huscical saving is generally to be deducted. On average, however, this can only be calculated at 1 Ra per day, since the current expenditure of the household remains undisturbed and at best only reduces the food costs. For a multi-member family, the amount of L.-Rl for domestic savings is almost too high, because according to experience it makes hardly any difference whether e.g. 5 or 6 persons, if these amounts are deducted, it is concluded from the present compilations that the daily need for housing and food is about 1 0 - 1 2 R4, while the employment remuneration or separation compensation for the vast majority of civil servants is not higher than 7 o'clock 8 RA. This result has confirmed to me every other beante surveyed and I myself have reached the same figures after my own experience. The reasons why the cost of living here is so high are because the rooms here are unreservedly expensive. But also the food is much more expensive than before.
