Schörner also known as Bloody Ferdinand due to hard access to his soldiers. During the Opava-Ostravská operation he did not hesitate to shoot part of his staff, which did not trust the victory of German troops even when it was clear that victory was not possible. In the time of the Prague uprising, Schörner's army immediately embarked on a fight with the rebels, especially at the radio station, but also in other places of Prague. Schörner knew that the war was lost and tried to lead his army into American captivity. But the armed and upstanding Prague prevented it. On the night of May 5th to 6th, it grew to 2,000 barricades in Prague, where tens of thousands of Pragueans helped to build it. All night of the May 7th to 8th, heavy and tough fighting took place in Prague in which the SS committed atrocities against the civilian population. In their conquered parts of the city, people were driven out of their homes and shot, including women and children. The Czech population was also used as live shields before advancing tanks. The German army fought with heavy weapons, guns, tanks and even with the help of several planes. Vlasov's army joined the rebel party immediately at the beginning of the armed uprising, without whose help the Prague insurgency of the Germans would be suppressed immediately in the bud. After the war Schörner was taken from the American captivity to the USSR where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. However, the penalty was later reduced to 12 years and already in 1955 he was released to freedom and transferred to the GDR. After returning to his homeland he was offered the post of Chief Inspector General of the People's Army of the GDR. However, he refused and in 1958 emigrated to West Germany. Here he was again imprisoned and accused of the illegal execution of German soldiers suspected of desertion. He was sentenced to four and a half years which he spent in prison. He had been released in 1963 and until his death in 1973 he lived in seclusion in Munich. See Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Sch%C3%B6rner of 23.3.2014.
