When I took over the German theatre a year ago in the administration of the city and introduced the large operetta in addition to the speech piece, I was aware that considerable demands had to be placed on both the artistic personality and the orchestra, since our theatre had not only to satisfy the art need of our city, but also to fulfil a special task as a borderland theatre, by providing a whole range of cities with guest performances. The reputation of our theatre was so outstanding in the shortest possible time that we had enthusiastic listeners not only in Olomouc, in the Olsa region, in Sudetenland, but also received an honorable vocation of our operetta to Prague for the duration of 4 weeks. Now a new season begins again. The preparation of good performances is in full swing. A number of well-known artists from the previous year have been recommitted, new ones will honour their skills and their name. In joint work the playing body will compete to further increase the good reputation of our city theatre and to give the Ostrava German population hours of edification and joy. 4-Sturmbannführer EMIL BEIER Lord Mayor
