78 - 13 - In economic relation Pilsen always developed in ascending line. The Skodawerke and the breweries contributed decisively to this. After the world war a high economy with overtime worked began, but then followed long years of crisis (l927-1932), where many Skoda workers were unemployed or were only employed with reduced working hours. There were frequent street demonstrations, where communist MP D v o ř a k spoke in the streets and was repeatedly led away by the police during protests and riots of the crowd. In the following years, economic and social conditions improved without ever reaching a satisfactory level again. With the assignment of the German peripheral regions, Pilsen lost a large part of its sales area, since up until then customers had come here from Eger, especially on market days. It seemed almost impossible to separate the "West Bohemian metropolis" from this area, so rumors about the subsequent connection of Pilsen to the empire, which were not even received unfavorably by the population, appeared again and again during the second republic. In the present time, traders and merchants are constantly hoping for the abolition of borders, in order to revive the old connections. Agriculture is extremely valuable in the area of Pilsen, its pride is the Kschimitzer Kraut, which was mentioned at the beginning. Together with the rich industry, this ensures the development of Pilsen for the future. Hfu Oertwrmbaunfihrer
