A 9 35 Rhineland: In the first weeks after the overcoming of Poland, it was convinced in large circles of the people that the war would soon come to an end. Many people thought that the German army was extremely strong in Poland. There was no doubt that France would agree with the decision in the East and finally convince England that a further continuation of the war would require victims for something that has already been decided. Hitler had and still today has enormous prestige among the people. The German people, more than is often accepted, have become accustomed to Hitler's doing it. He had always been right and the others had always retreated. Poland had been overcome in a speedy manner that France and England would have to see that there was simply no prospect of resistance here. Since the people generally do not want war, they clung to the hope that the others would give in after all. Now the war continues. The uncertainty in the assessment of the situation grows. The average person recognizes more and more slowly than the small layer of thinking people how the development could go. The great mass usually thinks the way official propaganda determines it, often without being aware of it. This applies especially now, where many are in a serious internal conflict, after all hopes, that the war would be to en- de with the overcoming of Poland, disappear. The solution from this inner conflict, from the doubts is: we have a culprit! This culprit is England and especially his propaganda minister Churchill. Many still want to believe that England has no right to take care of things in Eastern Europe. England would not concern Poland at all. Gdansk and the corridor were questions that only Germany had to deal with. The English had no right of interfering. Little by little, the hope that in the West, despite everything, there will be no serious struggles. Doubts are growing. The Nazis know this very well. Therefore, they talk and write daily that this war will win Germany. England and France had rejected the offer of the leader, now they would see what they had of it. Until now no fights would have taken place in the West. But if the Western powers first knew the superiority of the German weapons, then their peoples would probably think differently. This superiority in German weapons is an important matter for the whole people. In general one is very proud of the german weapons, especially the German ones.
