The President of the State in Bohemia Department of Education Prague III, Magdeburgerstr.4 Number 1o8/43 Prague, 27.4.1943 Ministerial Councillor Dr. Heckel in P r a g III . Ministry of Education Carmelitergasse 8 Subject: Hauptmann d. Sch. R a t z, School Officer at the District Council in Budweis. M Annexes: 1 U In the annex I present an extract from reports concerning the supervision of the captain of the protective police Raatz in Budweis. I regret that I am forced to write this letter, although I had decided not to report on the whole matter. I have so far avoided making the German school inspectors and the teachers' office aware of my concerns from the outset, so as not to make it difficult for the school officers of the Oberlandrats to carry out their almost insoluble task. I am aware that the dissatisfaction and partly unwillingness of the teachers about the visits of the police officers increases. You will also be surprised - consider dureh remarks from Czech teachers' circles, that it must probably be bad with the German school system, since it has proved to be necessary to entrust the police with the supervision of the teachers. Another rumor, which goes around in teacher circles, says that the previous school supervision service is to be replaced by the police officers at all. The resulting restlessness naturally affects the entire school work. It cannot be avoided that, as in Budweis, such incidents go like wildfire through the entire German civil society of Bohemia. It is not possible to prevent a lot of time, which could be used better for school purposes, from being talked about.
