39 Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Wostry (Prague), dzt. Eichwald b/ Teplitz-Schönau, Sanatorium Theresienbad nister - 6. NOV. 1943 To the SS-Obergruppenführer Minister of State K.H. Fr a n k in P R A G IV. Czerninpalais. Would you please allow me to add the status of the issue of the award of the Eichendorff Prize to you and ask for your renewed support in this matter? Prof. Erich Gierach (in Munich) and Walter Hensel (dzt. in Teplitz- Schönau) were planned as prize-triggers for years; the third was Prof. Emil Lehmann (Dresden). I have reported to you at the time on all three of the persons envisaged, and I have not forwarded the proposal of the Board of Trustees to the Executive Board of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Foundation any more than I had the conviction that you were not concerned about it. I also have Mr. Rector Prof. Buntru informed of the situation and of the steps taken in it and did nothing without his consent. So I also repeatedly negotiated with him about the date of the solemn ceremony and so (in agreement with Prof. Metz) finally the ll. December l.J. In view of the firm intention (which, unfortunately, could not yet be realized by the necessity of my sat- national stay), I would like to ask for your consent for this date and for the celebration itself the honor of your participation orally. Nothing made me believe that there was still a lack of the approval of another decisive place. St. M. √0-1701/42
