Wiking and Gesemann, however, were the opponents of Gierach and the spokesmen of the liberal Jewish direction in the former Philo-Sophical Faculty. Although Hofmann does not go to the outside for this liberal direction, he clearly pursues the tendency in his entire school policy to avoid all political conflicts. As Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Prague and as Head of the Department of Higher Education, he has repeatedly tried to create a clever atmosphere against those university teachers who could take a clear stance on popular policy issues or who could interfere with the churchyard rest of the universities through their other D activities. Hofmann, who has almost no pupils as an indogermanist and has not published any significant scientific work for many years, is a representative of administrative policy: he is against any university teacher who, through his scientific production or through his strong teaching success, raises any problems that are difficult to master with the normal methods of university policy. From these "pacifist" considerations he must also be regarded as a pronounced opponent of Gierach, as he usually did not take the side of those professors who represent the emphasized national work in the spirit of Gierach. It draws attention to the case of Gierach, because the absence of a Prague reaction threatens to damage the university policy of Hofmann for the Faculty of Philosophy in Prague. It is already clear that the upswing experienced by the faculty by the initiative of the it senior group leader Heydrich in 1942 was hampered by inappropriate personnel decisions. In the course of the winter semester, five chairs are likely to be permanently occupied, so it should be useful to pay particular attention to the development of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
