N Copy. Reichswerke Aktiengesellschaft Berlin, August 6, 1943. for mountain and hut businesses Hermann Göring Board of Directors State Council Meinberg Hermann Gö Ring Werke,Bln.-Halensee, Albrecht-Achilles- Str.60-64 - Dr.v.C/B - Dear Minister! Dear Party Comrade B e r t s e h ! From the Eisenwerk Witkowitz, I receive an emergency call for workers on whose behalf the fulfilment of the higher output in the pan-, torpedo and ammunition program required by the Reich Minister for Armament and Ammunition depends. There is also no doubt that the main productions of the plant can no longer be helped by an in-house compensation. Mr. K u c h i n k a wrote to Mr. P 1 e i - ger: "At the turn of the year, young workers, mainly metal workers, were withdrawn from the Witkowitz plant as part of the service obligation of protectorate members after the old Reich. This was followed by a three-month allocation ban for male workers and, in recent months, a completely inadequate supply of forces for additional production programs. The allocations do not even cover the natural exit. Therefore, free production possibilities cannot be exploited and ordered additional defence programs cannot be carried out. The initial 8-hour shift was extended to 1 0 and 1 2 hours wherever it allowed the type of production, but this aid has also long since been exhausted. First of all, there is a shortage of auxiliary workers for the iron and steel industry, namely: blast furnace plant: demand 1 50 steelworkers; as a result of the shortage of people, production fell by 1500 tonnes of pig iron in June and 2 000 tonnes of raw iron in July. At the same time, slag processing had to reduce production by 40 %.
