36 17 April 1941. -Gruf. St.S.134/41. To President Dr. Hácha, 17. V. 1941 Prague III AE Castle. Dear President! I took note of the remarks made in the letter dated 18 February 1941 - sign D 771/41. In particular, I followed the course of the meetings held on 13 October 1940 with interest. Although the language of the programmes has corresponded to the official task, the form and content of the meetings did not leave a lasting impression. I have heard statements which show that the speeches were made according to a certain scheme and without any inner sympathy. The impression of the assemblies is described as cool and foreign. There is no mention of mass appeals. In some cases, there was only a certain circle of officials and delegates who were obliged to do so. In Pilsen, only 860 persons were invited by about 12oo people. The anvesenity of members of the government took up in a short lecture, which took about 8 to 10 minutes - sometimes even a shorter period of time - and the rallies following the meetings at a time interval showed no other picture. The rally in Chotieborsch was a pronounced failure. Only about 4oo persons appeared from 2oo invited persons.
