M The protectorate in its relations with the southeast. The purpose of this study is not to discuss the economic relations of the protectorate with the south-east in general, but to carry out some concrete studies on the previous trade in goods, based on the statistical material published in each country. The industrial development of the countries of Bohemia and Latvia is determined by its geopolitical situation and by its annual membership of the Danube monarchy. The economic capacity of these countries is such that it must be applied far beyond the narrow framework of its own needs. It is natural, therefore, that the economy of this area is today looking for an expansion of those areas with which it combines a long-standing tradition and to which the most favourable conditions are given in terms of location. The wealth and diversity of industrial life in the entire Bohemian-Mauritian region is recognized by the fact that it was the actual industrial territory in the old double monarchy. In the ČsR, which was created in 19l8, which contained only one fifth of the area, one quarter of the population of Austria-Hungary, more than 3/4 of the industrial production of the whole state remained. In the southern German peripheral regions, the consumer goods industry has always been largely concentrated, while the production industry has developed in the inner parts of the country. Thus, in its present peripheral areas, today's Sudetengau, the textile industry has grown.
