STATE SECRETARY FOR THE RUSSIAN PROTECTOR IN THINGS AND IN MORAVA, PRAGUE, inv. 1290, sig. 109-4/1044
English Translation
The water works of the capital city of Prague are addressed to the inhabitants of Groß-Prags with the request that the water consumption in the present large frosts should not be increased by the inevitable measure. In many cases, the house water conductions are sought to prevent the freezing, so that the outflows remain open and the water runs continuously. This leads to excessive water consumption and forces the utility plants to supply large amounts of water, for which sttron and coal must be spent, which are then lacking elsewhere. However, the entire population suffers from the necessary restrictions of the last few days in the consumption of electricity and gas. Where water pipes are endangered by frost, doors and windows must be closed well or sealed with straw and dgl. Often you will also be able to provide heat by opening the doors to heated rooms. The wrapping of endangered pipes with straw, paper or rags is a matter of course. Especially where pipelines are laid in the outer walls, the house line must be closed overnight and the water in it must be drained by the emptying chickens. Anyone who fails to comply with these guidelines damages the entire population. The waterworks will monitor the observance of these instructions by their control bodies. 23.1.1942.
