67 Rundfunk London, 22 September 1942, Czech, 6.30 p.m. "... In November the year l939 the oldest university, Karlsuniversität, was closed by the Germans. At the same time all other Czech universities were closed. This measure, it was said, had been taken because of the student unrest and should remain in effect for a period of three years. And since, as we know, Hitler keeps all promises to the Czech people, he has a wonderful opportunity to show before the whole world and especially before the Czech People that he knows how to keep his word. In a short time the three years are un, so we expect that in a short period of time the gates of the Czech universities will open again and thousands of Czech students can return to their work. ....." Radio London, 24 September 1942, Czech, 6.30 p.m. "15 minutes of talks with the home country: Only a few weeks are missing to the 15th November of the year l939, where the Czech student community demonstrated on the streets of Prague for the funeral of Jan Obletals (?). We still remember all the events of that past difficult time. We know that today it is as if from the German side the most terrible measures were taken because of these student demonstrations, how the mass executions of the best of our students followed and how finally the Czech universities were closed for the duration of 3 years as a penalty measure. This closure covered not only the Prague Charles University and the technical university there, but also a number of other Czech universities in the cities of Brno, Olmütz and Pribram. .......... But now in a short time the 3 years have changed and we therefore hope that the Protectorate government and, above all, the so-called Ministry of Education and People's Culture will demonstrate the necessary efforts to reopen the Czech universities in accordance with Hitler's promise.".
