Report 0V for the Council of Governors G i e B On the dismantling of cultural relations between Ita- lien and the Protectorate, discussions of the German Embassy in Rome with the Italian Government are currently taking place. The representative of the Foreign Office has been instructed to deal with all the actual wishes of the Ital. Consul General in a di- latory manner until their conclusion. The original instruction of the Foreign Ants to the embassy was based on the assumption that all cultural relations between Italy and the Protectorate should be liquidated; except for the museum of the Italian Patriots on the Spielberg in Brno, the Italian chapel in Prague I and the Italian orphanage in Prague III, provided that the Ital. Government for all costs arising from the maintenance of the chapel and the orphanage. In view of the importance which Mr Reichaussenmister attaches to the careful treatment of all German-Italian relations, a complete dismantling of all Italian cultural institutions appears in the prot. It is not appropriate, especially since we are very interested in Italy's attitude towards our own cultural and political intentions in Croatia and Greece. Therefore, the instructions have been amended in the sense that 1.) the dissolution of the company "Dante Alighieri" in Brno is absolutely necessary, 2.) from the demand for dissolution of ital. However, if the Ital. government fails to enter on demand of 2.) the temporary stay of the institute in Prague could be agreed with the condition that the restriction on the cultural support of the German population was clearly defined. An appropriate approach by Italy to possible future cultural developments in Germany in Albenia should be required. It should be stressed that the admission of the Institute in Prague means an extraordinary approach by Germany. According to a report of the German Embassy in Rome of Oct. l94l, the Ital has itself. Government agrees with the invitation of the society "Dante Alighieri" in Brno and the "Italian-Czech League" in Prague, but opposes the transfer of the Ital. Cultural Institute from Prague to Berlin.
