RO 48.17. Subject:Gendarmen deutscher Iglau,17 July 1939. Nationality-identification. 00 81678 To the Chancery of the State Secretary K.H.F r a n k D9 P ra g. I would like to address you in the following matter: In the service of the Protectorate Gendarmerie there is a certain - albeit relatively small number of people of German origin, who are currently mainly active in such gendarmary offices, where closed German settlements are located. For example, I have been assigned to Iglau as commander of the gendarme department since July 2, 1939.Similarly, there are in Igław as well as in some posts in my department of the people's German gendarmes. However, these gendarmerie anhörøgen are not recognizable by anything, since they wear the same service clothes as the Czech gendarmen. As a result, however, their position in the service is often more difficult, because the German population sees only Czech gendarmes in them, because also in the personal service traffic the population is not known whether it is a popular German or just a German-speaking Czech gendammen. I therefore allow myself to make the provision to identify the German gendarmerie members of the Protectorate by means of armbands with the sovereign sign/:similar to what the SS or SA wears:/ or in another suitable way. Such identification would also be of benefit in the case of the official transport with the German authorities and commandos.
