By the end of 1939, the wholesale index in Bohemia and Moravia rose by 17.23 % in England by 24.70 % in the Netherlands by 21.43 % in Switzerland by 18.66% in Yugoslavia by 18.42 % We are therefore in the lowest position among the countries mentioned here. Since the establishment of the Protectorate, the wage level has risen by about 25 % by the endof December 1939. The economic recovery is also reflected in a reduction in bankruptcies and compensations. The monthly average of bankruptcies was 1 4 cases in 1 939 against 19 cases in 1938. The number of compensations in 1939 accounted for barely 24% of the cases in l938. Despite the war, the export of the protectorate industry has been kept at a very high level, and in relation to the Old Kingdom it has even been increased by a significant amount. The entire iron and metal processing industry, like the machinery industry, is 100% exploited in its capacity. Textile and clothing industry is well occupied with few exceptions. By adapting sugar production to the whole economy of the Reich, it will allow beet growing to a much greater extent than before. The production battle of agriculture is initiated by us and is of the greatest interest to Czech farmers. We have made very large quantities of artificial fertilisers available and have made it extremely easier to intensify agriculture, and we have reduced the price of potash for this action by 30%. Despite the war, a number of outstanding construction projects have been put into operation and are being carried out. Dams and Reichsautobahnen are being built, and the Oder-Danube Canal is surveyed and started.
