WB Division IV Prague, July 1, 1942. Head of the Press Group Strictly confidential! I./ Vernerk. The head of the military censorship for Bohemia and Moravia, Lieutenant Colonel Grosse, told me yesterday with confidence that Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Ritter v.Goss will leave Prague in the next few days, since he was transferred as I c. to General Friderici. The question of the appointment of the successor is now very sensitive. Undoubtedly, Mr. Menschik, who was first promoted to lieutenant colonel, will take over the management of the W.Pr. position, as he is considered to be a priority. He also proposed that the lieutenant colonl of Goss be a laughing stock. However, Menschik was impossible at this point: 1.) he had been artificially raised by Colonel von Goss (that is, his fast career; in two years he was promoted by Lieutenant-General to Lieutenant-Colonel), 2.) Manschik, as a former bank official, was also factually a zero, 3.) he was vain and a notorious Kurbler. In his opinion (Oberstleutnant Grosse) the most appropriate officer of the group W.Pr. would not be the former editor, Major of the Luftwaffe Quapil, who therefore did not promote Gossv, since Quapil had frequently expressed a view on factual jedorh questions which deviates from that of the Colonel. On the part of the Press Group, the appointment of a successor to a colonel of Goss follows can be said: A smooth cooperation is guaranteed only with Major Quapil. Lieutenant Colonel Menschik is technically without knowledge and experience.
