97a Part of the unexpected popularity of the legionaries even begins to extend to the members of the government and especially to the Prime Minister Eliáš. Their behaviour in the common danger is exuberantly praised, a fact that has never happened before. With recognition even the President Dr. Hácha is mentioned, one speaks of a spontaneous resignation of the whole government, to which he too would have joined, after which the stilts of the protectorate administration in Berlin had forced the Secretary of State K.H.Frank to immediately abandon all steps and exceptions still to be implemented against the legionaries. According to rumours spread in Prague, Mr Reichsprotektor was supposed to have sent a personal letter to Hácha on the night before, in which he summoned him to refrain from his resignation in the interests of the two peoples and their coexistence. Neither the President nor the Czech government has so far made a binding statement on the proposals of the Imperial Protector. Hácha reserves the right to do so only after consulting the leader, whom he will therefore visit, with 57094. He allegedly insists on a new regulation with the validity of a basic and state constitution, through which the autonomy granted to the Czech people is legally interpreted and guaranteed by Reichswegen. These and similar rumors are colported as irrefutable facts in all Prague inns and nightclubs, especially in the case of the Czech middle class.
