English Translation
- 4 The agricultural area available to each of the inhabitants is decisive for the supply of food to the regions. It is evident that in the Protectorate there are about 10% more agricultural crops available than in the Old Reich and about 5% more than in Great Germany. Since the soil in the Protectorate is on average more fertile than in Germany, the possibilities for self-sufficiency in the protectorate are considerably more favourable than those in Germany. As a result of the continental climate, the area of grassland available to each loo of inhabitants is less than in the Reich. Thus, in order to feed the livestock population, more use must be made of field fodder than in Germany. However, compensation is obviously not completely possible, so that, as explained below, the benefits of the viéh stock in the Protectorate are below those of the German Reich. The cultivation of maize does not matter - contrary to expectations - in protectorate. It is also striking that in the protectorate the area of rye cultivation is considerably larger than the area under wheat cultivation. Table 5
