- 4 - 265 Those who longed for freedom emigrated to the American continent. From many kingdoms, many cities came great crowds, who had common goals. We Americans as individuals and the American republics as peoples always remain on guard to maintain unity, against the old racial hatred, against kix promises we want to make our voice loud. Divide and govern - that is the battle cry of the totalitarian powers in their arieg against the democracies. For the moment, they are successful on the European continent, but on our continent they will not succeed. We are determined to offer our whole energy and strength to keep us clean from foreign propaganda warnings. If these propagandists in Europe spread their teachings or this on the part of the ocean, that doesn't matter. In their propaganda, the claim is made that democracy is a de-cadent form of government. They want to convince us that the democrat ideals and the tradition of civilized liberties belong to the past. We reject this idea. The command of the democratic faith is always "forward and upward", free men have never contented themselves with the mere upliftment of any status quo. We have always believed to have a better world with brave and honest people in mind beyond the horizon. The same faith now shines in the eyes of the people who want to gain freedom beyond the ocean. On this side of the ocean, no single nation has the xunxex desire to subdue others. The only encirclement that we strive for is the desire to stand up to every attack through a firm bond of good neighbourly friendship.
