215 - 2 - 27.10.1940 L o n d o n - English, afternoon. A few hours after the news of the Annahem of the German proposals duréh Petain came in, Cordell H u l l, the American Foreign Minister, gave the world a kiare answer about the attitude and position of the USA: He explained: "Only once in the history of our Americas. We found ourselves in a struggle as serious as it is today by threat from the outside, this was at the moment the war of independence. That was at that time, when the founders of our republic committed everything to their conviction that the principles of freedom and justice would have to endure forever. At that time, these founders won a victory whose fruits have become today the legacy of our American people. Today, this system of freedom and justice, so laboriously fought for, is severely threatened in al, peaceful nations. This serious danger threatens from the plans and actions of a small group of rulers who have succeeded in degrading their peoples to willless tools that help to subjugate other peace-loving peoples. The events of the last months of the war, in which numerous countries and nations, beginning with Manchuria, China, Abyssinia Austria, CSR and finally Poland, were suppressed and destroyed, are sinstoo fishy in every thought, so that they do not have to be listed in the new. The appalling tragedy of the world situation is that a number of peace-loving nations have failed to recognize the true nature and aims and intentions of these brutal rulers. The peoples of the peaceful states are afraid of the idea that a new far-reaching war could be possible. They, through the frequent promises of power, lulled into a deep sleep of security that these only had limited goals to conceal their true intentions. Even then, these countries could be put to sleep when all the preparations for a pure new war had already been made behind the Spanish wall of these empty insurances. In order to conceal the True Goals, these rulers tried to brand all other peoples and states as war thugs and war thwarters and overwhelm them with poison and gall of slander. The U.S. has always advocated the principles on which civilization is based. We have thus won the friendship of all the Natians and States, except those who call themselves "non-owners" and are on the march to take with force what they want and need. These rulers have thus violated and raped all the principles of international relations. Brutal attacks, terrible terror. In order to achieve their goals, they have no time limits, nor do they know the time limits. They threaten other peoples with terrible consequences if they do not watch tacitly. - 3 -
