1 -3 The teacher of the Gypsy class, B rzi c k ý, Josef, gained quite an influence on them through his constant contact with the Gypsies' families and thus learned the gypsy language, which makes the teaching work much easier. The students of the class, who now have the second year, already have a better behavior and do not at least at school the usual rough expressions. Neither in the class nor in the school anything was stolen in the past school year. As far as learning results are concerned, it seems that the boys are more sensitive and receptive to education and teaching than the girls. Above all, they are more accessible to reason and can be influenced more easily. The girls are often defiant and insidious, with the older ones completely losing interest in the class and strongly expressing their tendency to vanity and pussiness. Characteristically, gypsy hybrids in this respect are much worse than pure-bred gypsies. In the past school year they were better than l94o/4l. The German language and the simplest answers were often made up of three languages in the beginning. The Czech language is also a hard nut for them. The difficulties are particularly large because the Gypsy families speak the gypsy language throughout, so that the children lack any sense of content and proper emphasis, especially the Czech expressions. The experience has shown that it is impossible to give these students homework, as all books and booklets are contaminated and destroyed by the families. As a result, all tasks had to be done at school. It has been shown that the establishment of a gypsy class was quite justified and not only beneficial for the Gypsy youth, but especially for the other schools -4-
