20 THE PRESIDENT PRAG I, February 1942.DER Mozartplatz 2 Haus der deutschen Hochschuleen GERMAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES Fernruf 605-95 IN PRAG LSLOUS sgefig nOV TSW Memorandem über die Deutsche Akademie der Wissenschaften in Prag. oensa Geschichte, Aufgabe und Aktienbereich AOLC der Prager Akademie. The history of the German Academy of Sciences in Prague reflects the history of Germanism in the Sudeten region since the end of the 18th century. In 1774, a German founded the "Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences" in Prague, which initially consisted mainly of Germans. In the course of the national struggles in the 2nd half of the 19th century, the "Königlich Böhmische Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften" was founded. It was cschechized. In the national opposition, Sudeten-Germanism created itself a replacement organization in the "Society for the Promotion of German Science, Art and Literature in Bohemia in the year l89l. In 1924, under the changed name of the "German Society of Sciences and Arts (for the Czech Republic) in Prague", its activities were extended to the Germanic state of the whole central eastern region. Formal-legally a "association", the "society" of its work was from the beginning essentially an "academy", - of course, of that special coloring as space required it. 141
