b -9 - This inflation mood of the Czechs, as reported for example from Pras, Budweis, Brno and Moravia, is constantly caused by rumors about a coming money appreciation, about an imminent cancellation of bank notes or by the assertion that only the old banknotes retained their validity, while the two-language ones were worthless. For example, the National Bank in the Louie of April d.J. in Budveis had issued 3 to 4 million crowns in old intermittent crown notes in circulation, of which only a small part (about 300 to 400 000 crowns) had been recognisable in the course of May, while earlier in the same period 2 1/2 to 3 million had returned to the National Barque. Czech bank officials say that large circles of the Czech population believe that these old thousand-dollar notes are worth more after the defeat of Germany, because they would have had American gold cover and the old signatures.
