18a to cover part of the abovementioned shortage of bread cereals rather than barley by other means, namely imports from the Occupied Territories. Furthermore, the addition of potato flakes as last year is to be continued, and a certain addition of sugar pulp is also to be made. With regard to the tense supply situation of the Reich with bread cereals, Secretary of State Backe made a clear request that the previous deliveries of bread cereals from the Reich to the newly arrived and occupied territories from the coming marketing year should be discontinued. He was, however, aware of the need to grant aid to certain areas which were particularly in need, including East-Upper Silesia, Alsace and Lorraine and Finland. He pointed out that in the Great German Reich about 400,000 ha more were grown on potatoes, but the smooth supply largely depended on the transport question. From the point of view of production, there should be no concern to fix the weekly ration of potatoes in the autumn at about 4 kg, with the aim of granting the grant card recipients certain special rations. In view of the severely depleted feed cover (depletion of bran, extensive use of barley for nutritional purposes), meat supply will be tensed compared to the current marketing year. The consequences of pig fattening will be particularly severe. On the whole, a balance of the meat balance must be sought by means of grants from France and the new eastern regions.
