xV/Vt. Prague, 22 February 1940. 84 Subject: Preface Captain d.R. Karl U r b a n . 1. V e r m e r k. On Wednesday, 14 February 1940, I was assigned to the reception by Dr.Frhrn.v. Gregory Hauptmann d. R. Karl u r ba n. According to the visiting card "Obmann and speaker of the Group for German-Czech Relations of the Committee of the Czech People's Community" and "Obermannstellrepräsentation des zechischen Verbands für die Zusammenarbeit mit den Deut- lichen". He refers to previous preliminary speeches with Mr Wolfram v.Wolmar and with Mr. Oberregierungsrat Dr. Gies in the following matter: He opened his project with the usual statement that he was an Austrian officer and actually of German descent and ... "Of course I am Czech today, you have to be correct after all, I am Austrian officer". - The purpose of his visit is: the group for the German-Czech relations of the "Committee of the Czech People's Community" is to be born in the form of a social tea, to which the representatives of the Reich Protector are to be invited. This joint event would then, so to speak, be evaluated as recognition of this group of the NS by the Reichsprotector. In his executions, he stressed that he was also in negotiations with Dr. Gies, who welcomed the plan and had already wished to submit a programme. This programme was to be handed over to the public on the occasion of the tea mentioned above. He wanted to know whether the cultural policy group also agreed with this plan and who would take part in the event from the German side, for example. ..."If the Secretary of State or the Under-Secretary of State appears, then the Czech ministers will also appear and at best the representatives of the government force." The tea is planned for the first half of March and he is only waiting for the approval of the Pro- 8813.
