hh - 31 - that Czechoslovakia could not count on the help of France and England if it were attacked (at 2 a.m. on 21.9.1938), Dr. Benesch called us to such a conference, which lasted in his offices from 3 a. m. to 6 a.M. I can only confirm here that the development of the kind of events during this time was just as true as Emanuel Mo- ravec in his book "The End of the Benesh Republic" on pages 300 to 350. I therefore added only a few details from my memories. In the above days, representatives of the General Staff, among others Prime Minister and General Inspector General of Army Sirovy, General Staff Chief General Krejčí and General Husárek and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Krofta took part in the deliberations, except in the political committee and party representatives already mentioned. During these discussions, President Benesch presided over and held talks. In his hand, everything was united in divse days. As the supreme commander of the army (according to the Constitution) spoke about military matters as well as about the negotiations with the representatives of the individual states d.i. France, England, Soviet Union, Poland, Yugoslavia, Romania, etc. At that time, President Benesch con- cluded the entire government in his person. Just by the way, I notice that Dr. Benesch has appointed the government of General Sirovy without the knowledge, participation and consent of the political parties and that he has also carried out the selection of government members himself without knowledge 4jimnh of the outgoing government. The negotiations with the ambassadors of the allies of Czechoslovakia led Dr. Benesch almost personally these days. Minister Dr. Krofta had only to do small work, more or less administrative tasks assigned to him by Dr. Benesch.
