STATE SECRETARY FOR THE RUSSIAN PROTECTOR IN THINGS AND IN MORAVA, PRAGUE, inv. 429, sig. 109-4/174
English Translation
Six out of seven protectorate members of the main editors often opposed their German-friendly attitude to the policy pursued by the government of the Protectorate, but suddenly fell ill following a press conference with former Prime Minister E l a s. An expert found that the diseases were mixed infections. Up to now, anthrax agents have been safely isolated; in all probability, typhoid and Ruhr bacteria are also detectable. The final report is still pending. According to the results of the investigation, it has been established that the introduction of the bacteria could only take place at the press conference held by the Prime Minister on 18.9.1941, in which the ministerial officials Dr. V o r e l and M e l é took part, in addition to the President of the Minister and the principals. The conference was accompanied by a breakfast, which was striking in that the Prime Minister E l a s instructed the ministerial officials Dr. V o r e l and M e l c the places, while the principal editors visited their places at will. Particularly striking is the fact that M e l č had personally taken over the distribution of the rolls and the gift of the wine in an otherwise not usual way. Contrary to the other habit, the food delivered had been remarkably prepared in the house of the Prime Minister. The fact that, according to his servant, before the opening of the conference, he wanted to follow a small package of rolls, not his servant for administration, is still a matter of great concern to him, but of particular importance to keep this package, which was later seen by the servant on the breakfast table. On 1 October 1941, E l i a š was sentenced to death by the People's Court of Justice for favouring the enemy and for treason. This fact may still prove that he had a lot to do with the elimination of political opponents. V o r e l was not to be provided, M e l é is particularly burdened to the extent that he, of all people, imposed the rolls on the principals and was at all more than usual concerned about the service of the guests. a W d brag / 5/70.47.
