'Hfa On 29 August 1944. G-Mann No. ..19O reports: "In the well-known matter of K e l e m b e r y I was told by my guarantor: Yesterday afternoon K e m B e r Y said: The military situation for Germany and thus in the south-east also for Hungary has deteriorated in the last days so that Hungary threatens a catastrophe. In Budapest it was already convinced that Hungary had no choice but to close a cease-fire under all conditions. The Consulate received from Budapest the notification that 80% had already decided to break the alliance with Germany and thus to withdraw from the war. In Sofia, Hungary is already being negotiated with the Bolsheviks and in Ankara with the English and Americans. The former Hungarian ambassador to London B a r e z a , who is currently in Switzerland, has also received a wink from Budapest to negotiate a ceasefire with London. Furthermore, K e l e m b e r y mentioned that the Consulate was still receiving certain messages from Budapest, and that he himself would go to Budapest - to get accurate information and instructions - and return to Prague after about 2 - 3 days+. On the night of today, K e l e m b e r y was sought by the Hungarian Ministerial Councillor K o r m o s, who had just returned from Berlin or Budapest. K o m o S claimed that he had to speak K e r m b r y, it was very important. He also looked for the Hungarian Consul General or his representative and said that he could not reach them. K e l e m b e r y was not at home all night. When he returned in the morning, he said he had already spoken K o r m o s." 8 41ys 64953 turn 940449. \4-1/44s
