Reports of 9 August 1940. L o n d o n - Czech. Vortreg of a State Secretary: The csl. government was recognized 14 days ago. The importance of this state act is greater than the recognition of the csl. government on 9 August 1918. Probably at that time the independence and freedom of the GsR was founded, but the victory of England had already been won and thus the position of our republic was secured. The treaty of 21 July 1940 was carried out in the middle of wars, in the time of wrestling. This gives us all a tremendous moral strength, a support to fight and persevere until the final victory. Our gratitude is once again against England as it was 22 years ago. Again, we are lucky to be able to fight alongside England for the freedom of our nation. The British people are a healthy and brave people, Hitler will bite his atonement for it. England does not fight for itself, it fights for all humanity. If the loss of France for Buropa is a serious one, then a defeated England would be a catastrophe for the whole world. It is the duty of all states, whether small or large, to stand by the side of the country and fight. It's certain that England will defend itself against the German-Italian attack. We Czechoslovaks are proud to participate in this struggle. We remember what England did for us 22 years ago, and today we are happy to be able to fight again alongside Great Britain in this crusade, in the liberation of Europe from Nazi slavery. Dr. Benesch visited today the layman of the csl. airmen. In a brief speech, Benesch said: "I am sure that a new, democratic cal. state will emerge, which will be better than the old one, England must win, be convinced of it, as I am convinced.
