The head of division V (Cultural Policy) Prague, the_28._November 1944 IV/Z - Pr0. 20/4-718/44 inlsteramt 2 9. NOV. 1944 To SS-Standartenführer Dr. G i e s im H a u s e . Subject: Language regulation on the mention of Reinhard Heydrich. IV P - 43/44- I share your view that Reinhard H e y d ricl can already be seen as a historical personality, that his name should be used in German language usage in general without title. In the German press and in the German literature, as far as this is directly influenced by me, I have already begun a corresponding handling for some time. However, I do not think it is advisable at the moment to approach other Reich offices with the request for a corresponding language regulation. It seems to me, rather, that a gradual, indirect effect on a common use of language is more advantageous. In the Czech area, the handling desired on the German side can only be applied to a limited extent. It will be considered here in each individual case, which language use is expedient. In Czech texts, it is recommended in general: "The Deputy Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich". M.E. is also not to avoid that occasionally in texts, depending on the position of the individual sentence, changing formulations are used; among other things, in the Czech area it is also very important to the person who pronounces the name. If you still have doubts as to the accuracy of my opinion, I shall occasionally encourage oral discussion. i bray nt St.M.π9-43a/44
