The question of the award of an honorary doctorate to the Bürgerschuldierg (Citizen's School Director) Hofmann, Karlovy Vary, was dealt with by the Faculty Committee of the Faculty of Humanities at its meeting on 21 January 1943. From the well-respected statements made by the experts, it emerged that Josef Hofmann has written a series of popular publications that have collected a lot of material that would have been lost in the meantime without him. Although this is deserving, it cannot be attributed to these works a deeper general meaning beyond the goal. Hofmann has also written a small work on sudetenGerman art, which was soon overtaken after its publication. With regard to the strict provisions of the Minister of Education for the award of the degree and dignity of an honorary doctorate, in which it is made a special duty to be careful that the right of awarding the highest academic honor is exercised only with the greatest reluctance in terms of the rarity and prestige of this dignity, the Faculty Committee does not believe that it is possible to represent the Khrendoctor for Josef Hofmann with the Minister for Education. On my proposal, however, the faculty agreed to the merits of Mr Hofmann by conferring the dignity of an honorary citizen of the University of Buntru.
