Braunes Haus / 875.47 Subject: Greetings before the memorial of the unknown Czech soldier at the Old Town Square in Prague. The history of the honour for the unknown soldier at Old Town Town Hall is well known to all Prague people. At the end of March 1939, General Blaskowitz laid down a wreath in a solemn form, which first drew the Czechs' attention to the fact that they had a place full of consecration. Since then, gas flames have been burning during the day and both Czechs and Germans have passed by with greetings. Now there could indeed be justified doubts about the further retention of this honor, for the unknown soldier who is buried in the town hall chapel was a Czech defector who fell in the battle at Zborov, i.e. in the fight against the central powers and thus against Germanism. We have no reason to let defectors and legionaries glorify in any way as unknown soldiers or in think- ers of unknown soldiers. The orders, which had been attached to the upholstery in front of the coffin of the unknown soldier until recently, prove that this tomb of the unfamiliar soldier is clearly centred around the legionary ideology. They have only now been removed in the course of the general cleansing. If it were a tribute to that unknown soldier who bravely fell his duty on the side of the central powers, then we Germans could join us St.S.IA-36 2
