OvV - 13 - IV. Cooperation with the Protectorate authorities. In the last situation report, I reported the circumstances that led to the arrest of the former municipal police officer in Olomouc, Chief Inspector Jakob Ševčik, because he had caused Czech businessmen to pay damages without legal reasons, on the basis of the proposed measures of the Gestapo, which he suppressed. I also mentioned that these findings had caused consternation in Czech political circles in Olomouc. Now some countermeasures have been taken by the Czech side. Ševčik, most recently in the detention of the district court in Olmouc, was transferred to the detention centre in Kremsier by the gendarmerie investigation station in Olmütz. The transport was kept absolutely secret, so that not even the genera of the other branches, nor the gendarmerie station in Olomouc responsible for escorts, had any knowledge of it. According to the existing regulations, the gendarmerie does not carry out any transport of mentally ill persons at all; in order to avoid any suspicion in this respect, the Gendarmrie investigation station intervened. This approach by the Czech authorities can be explained by the following facts: Ševčik has recently been completely normal and mentally healthy, as his absolutely normal and accurate work in his business proves. His arrest and the revelation of various crimes have now caused dismay in Czech circles. On the one hand, the higher Czech officials of the municipality believe that they are now generally classified in lower places, on the other hand, certain circles feared for the discovery of further misconduct of Ševčík in connection with the other officials. Important Czech circles are therefore endeavouring, Š. in order to prevent a proper winding-up of his conduct or misconduct in the court.
