To All Higher - and Police Leaders Below I send the decree addressed by the Reichsminister for People's Enlightenment and Propaganda to the departments of his business. I ask all departments of the # and police to pay special attention to the clean maintenance of our native language. "During the course of the war, the unsittenness to enforce the German language with abbreviations and bumblebee words has constantly increased. If this is not vigorously counteracted, we run the risk that wide circles of our people will no longer be able to talk on certain subjects or on certain questions at all, because our native languages have fallen apart under the disastrous influence of word inventors and language dilettants into a multitude of specialized and specialized dialects which can no longer claim to be general intelligible. To this danger it is our natural duty to use all our might to preserve our most precious cultural good, our mother tongue. I therefore order the following for all services which are under my authority: to form abbreviations or to use existing definitions which have not yet been translated into the language of origin is hereby prohibited. Everyone has to strive to choose new names and designations as logically as they are scarcely necessary, so that they can always be used unabatedly. The maintenance of our courage language is the highest duty of every responsible German, especially at a time when our soldiers, in addition to many other cultural and spiritual values, defend them from a:velt of fines with weapons." 4.: H.
