X 390 7l. Slaughter and livestock farm. In the city of Prague there is a central slaughter and cattle farm without branches. With it is connected a meat market hall. The Prague slaughter and livestock yard is assigned the meat supply of adjacent communities. In total he has to slaughter for about l,5000oo persons and to assign meat. In the year 194l about 1 250o of cattle, 86000 pigs, 24000 calves, 20000 horses and 6000 small animals were slaughtered. The facilities of the slaughterhouse are over-aged. Therefore, the individual operations are partly cumbersome and require a considerable increase in labour requirements compared to an advanced slaughterhouse. A thorough rationalization is not feasible in the near future, as the slaughter and meat market halls are unfavourable to each other and conversions and machine procurements are not possible now. The city has already acquired land for a complete new plant. The veterinary duties in the livestock farm and in the meat market hall, which have so far been provided by the veterinarians of the slaughterhouse and livestock farm, are to be transferred to the newly trained veterinary office. 5 veterinarians are employed for this task in the slaughterhouse, but they are not fully employed with it and are used for other business. According to the slaughterhouse directorate, 3 - 4 veterinarians should be required. The management of the livestock farm and the meat market hall remain the responsibility of the slaughterhouse and livestock farm. The free bank is administered by the meat-market fund, a self-employed economic enterprise. However, the slaughterhouse and livestock administration carries out veterinary duties in it and provides some farm staff for the partial support of the veterinarians concerned against reimbursement of costs.
