The BUzAnan Prague II, herrengafse 12 Call 241-41 Series 4.I.1940. Tagrszeifung für Böhmen unomähren Kunst=Schriftleitung St. Aktienvermerkung During my stay in Berlin in December, I was able to present Mr. Mimister Dr. Goebbels with the report on the situation of German music culture in Prague, which was requested by the Minister, through his personal advisor, Dr. Müller. On 28 December, Ministerial Councillor Dr. Mueller received me for a detailed discussion. In my report, of which you have taken note, I first noted that there are opposing views on the building of culture in Prague, one of which is that of Dr. Ludwig and the X Music Officer at the Ministry of Propaganda, Dr. Drewes told me about emphatically, assuming that Prague has a German population of 20,000 to 30,000 people who are entitled mi! to the cultural life of a correspondingly small German provincial city. On the other hand, I stressed that Prague's historical tradition, as well as its special position as a German cultural island in the Slavic region, legitimize claims for cultural excellence. On this occasion, I mentioned that Secretary of State K.H.Frank also took the same position in a conversation with you. On my question, Minister Dr. Müller told me that Minister Goebbels was exactly on the same point of view.It was intended to build up a German cultural life in Prague, which had to be compared with Berlin and Vienna. On 29 December, I had a long discussion with State Councillor General Heinz Tietjen of the Berlin State Thea- terns. He consulted me because various requests had been made to him from Prague regarding an overall guest performance of the Staatsoper and the Staatliches Schauspielhaus. He initially had concerns to answer these requests positively, especially with regard to the current condition of the big house /Neues Deutsches Theater/ . In the stand theatre opera guest plays are so much as they are desired by both sides not possible. I dispelled these concerns by pointing out the possibility of making the big house ready for play in a few weeks. Councillor Tietjen agreed with this in principle to perform with excellent performances in Prague, although he still kept the tenmine open. As a concrete proposal he named the "Elektra" performance, which will be released under the direction of Herbert von Karajan the next in Berlin and will unite the most outstanding singers on the German stage. He also explained that he would free the best singers of his ensemble for Prague concert guest performances, e.g. Roswaenge, Schlusnus, Tiana Lemnitz. He also recommended some performances of the State Drama House / General Intendant State Councillor Gründgens/ to guest performances.According to these promises, the State Councilor Tietjen added the Hunsch that the Vershandlurgen would be led over me; 13i.
