0b Excerpted copy. Number: PV 1714/Geh-1941. Report on Maaz measures to combat fires in the own railway cars. I. Fires of hay, straw, peat and other flammable shipments occur this year in greater depth than ever before in the trains that each year re-emerges with the hot weather. Bies is to be explained in some cases by a large number of such shipments, some by the fact that they are carried today without plates, which were previously required for rail transport. The BMB administration has, since then, warned the military authorities of the danger of this promotion, but military posts are not to be provided with any necessary means of redress. In the case of lignite heating, fires from flammable consignments are more frequent, whereas in the cases of black coal heating, only sporadiech occurs. II. Right at the time of the entry of dry vetters, the railway management has encouraged control measures which have gradually been deepened. 1) On 2 May l.J. We have called attention to the commissioner of the Reichsverkehre minieterium with letter Fv 946/Ver-194i on frequent fires of uncovered shipments on trains / especially on transport of goods / and at the same time we have announced the maintenance and fight against fires. The same letter also suggested that such shipments should be equipped with fire extinguishers by military troops.
