Geheiny Number : PV 1714/Geh-1941. Report on measures to combat fires in railway wagons. I. Fires of hay, straw, peat and other flammable shipments occur on trains that repeat each year with the arrival of hot weather to a greater extent than ever before this year. This is partly explained by the large number of such shipments, partly by the fact that they are transported today without plates, which were previously required for rail transport. The BMB administration at that time drew the attention of the military authorities to the danger of this mode of transport, but the military are not able to provide the necessary cover spaces. This year, too, experience has shown that fires from flammable consignments occur more frequently in areas of lignite heating, whereas in areas where black coal heating is only sporadically occurring. II. Right at the beginning of dry weather, the railway management has hit anti-lock hooks, which have been deepened and deepened. 1/ On 2 May 1st year. We have drawn the attention of the commissioner of the Reich Transport Ministry with letter PV 946/Ver-194l to frequent fires of uncovered seads on trains / especially on Wehrmacht transports / and at the same time those for keeping and fighting ./.
