23 3 I explained to him the following : 1.) The President Hácha is at that time the Reich Protector Freiherrn v. Neurath was not offered to set up a volunteer corps, but merely the communication that the Czech government had carefully considered and discussed the reasons for and against such a list, and that it had come to the conclusion that the establishment of a Czech volunteer corpora was not possible and for various reasons (political and military) was not in place either. He (Hácha) therefore believes that he can agree with the Reichsprotektor if nothing is done by the Czech side in this matter at all. Mr. v.Neurath then said to Mr. Hácha that the Czech people could not serve the Reich with the weapon in hand, but through loyal and efficient work. Krejči then corrected his wording and fully confirmed to me that the result of the government meeting at that time was indeed as described above, and thus cannot be said of an offer to set up a volunteer corps. 2.) I explained to Krejčí that, moreover, the establishment of a Czech volunteer force in this form could not be treated at all, since any negotiation on this issue between German and Czech authorities must, from the outset, make the whole matter pointless.
