Mr. Ministerial Councillor Dr.Robert Gies, nisyer Prag. 11 FEB.1944 Subject: Sugar-fat-action. Between Christmas and New Year and again beginning of January d.J. The Minister of State ordered me to convert a quantity of about 20.o00 tons of sugar available to see the fat gap in the protectorate into ole. I proposed first to purchase Swiss francs through the sale of sugar and then to use them through a second action to buy oilseeds in Transnistria. The first meeting was attended by Dr. Schmidt, Dr. Hunecke. As always reported, it was not possible to sell the sugar in Turkey ord Schwedén, so that further attempts were made at the Federal Council in Berne and at the Geneva Red Cross, where this sugar was called Slovak sugar. At my presence in Zurich, I learned from our confidant that the Swiss Federal Council could not decide to buy it, since at the same time Slovak sugar is offered from the second side. As I happen to know today, this second action is obviously in agreement with the Food Group, which has been initiated without these plans being agreed with me. My immediate question to Mr Gebhardt confirms the accuracy of the information I received and informs me that this supply of sugar and sugar syrup, in total 6000 tonnes, should actually take place, but that it should be St.M.
