The New Day No. 9 Saturday, January 9, 1943 KURZE KULTURSCHAU Distribution of the Adalbert Stifter Prize for 1942 At the end of 1942, the "Adalbert-Stifter-Prize" created by the monthly publication "Böhmen und Mähren" was distributed for the second time in Prague. The prize, which was donated in 1940 and distributed for the first time in August 1941 in the amount of 5000 Reichsmark, is supposed to be an annual call to the German poets and writers to make the historical Reichsraum Bohemia and Moravia again home in the field of German literature and poetry. The participation of all German authors in the competition was a very lively one. Of 243 entries 276 works were received. At the suggestion of the honorary prize court, the publishing house and magazine decided to distribute the prize for 1942 to the extent of 5000 RM. in such a way that five narrator prizes and three poetry prizes were awarded. Prize, 1200 RM.: Hein-rich Bachmann, Freiburg i. Br., for the narration "Der Privatlehrer"; 2nd prize, 100o RM: Dr. Josef Schneider, Reichenberg; 3rd prize, 800 RM; Dr. Leo Hans Mally. Karlovy Vary; for the story "Das Spatzenpara- diess, 4. Prize, 60o RM.: Heinrich Zerkaulen, Dres- den, for the story "Die Begegnung zu Teplitz", 5, Preis, 400 RM: Hans Lerch, Dresden, for a narrative "Der schwarze Reiter Eger". — Price: 1st prize, 400 rm.: Dr. Leo Hans Mally, Karlsbad, "Sonette um Prag": 2nd prize, 350 rms.: René Schwachofer (dzt. Wehrmacht) for the poem "Böhmerland"; 3, Preise, 250 rm, Ing. Hans Leo Sittauer, Altenburg (Thuringia), for the poem "Bohemian Homeland". The award-winning works are dedicated to historical events in the Bohemian-Moravian region and reflect in a poetically valid form the awake experience that many of our poets feel for their work, even in the hours of fate of our day, from the thousand-year-old bond between Bohemia and Moravia. In addition to the above works, five other valuable works were purchased by the publisher.
